2019 Conference Highlights

Conference Recap

The 71st annual SHAPE Idaho conference was held October 18-19, 2019 at Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho.  Participants were able to select from 30 quality sessions covering a variety of topics applicable to health and physical education.  Some even braved the cool weather and the wind for sessions held outside!  Our fantastic keynote speech, sponsored by Portneuf Medical Center, was given by ultra-runner Luke Nelson.  To find out more about Luke and his message watch this video:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=1&v=LVbzN1VK0L8

Participants also attended a wonderful poster presentation session which showcased work by students from ISU and the University of Idaho.  Our future professionals did a great job!

Eight exhibitors joined our conference with useful information and products.  Consider checking into the products and resources they offer:

A special thanks to Dairy West for providing dairy products for our participants throughout the conference!

Each participant also received a multiclava (commonly known as a buff).  If you haven’t discovered it yet, this simple article of clothing is very useful! Check out this website for tips on how to wear your multiclava: https://thecampingtrips.com/how-to-wear-buff.html  A big thank you to Krieg Climbing for making our multiclavas https://kriegusa.com/collections/multiclava and to ISU Credit Union for purchasing them!

Finally, I would like to offer my sincerest gratitude, first to the ISU Sport Science and Physical Education department and ISU Campus Recreation for hosting our conference!  Next, I am extremely appreciative of many individuals who gave significant service in planning, organizing, and administering the conference. Karen Appleby, Melissa Caudle, John Fitzpatrick, Heather Bachman, Lennette Meyer, Bill MacLachlan, Sheldon Harris, and students from the ISU public health student association, THANK YOU!

Overall, I think all who attended would agree that the conference was an exceptional and beneficial experience!  I hope to see you all at our 2020 conference in Boise!
